A Family Business Since 1997

M&J was started in 1997 by Mark and his dad, Jim, which is where the M and the J come from. Mark had been working for Chelmsford Council, and Jim had worked as a garage erector for Marley Buildings before becoming a bricklayer for Chelmsford Council.

They started out as M&J Landscapes, cutting grass and doing basic landscaping. Over the years that grew into hard landscaping, driveways and every part of landscaping work.

Around ten years ago we started working with Cromwell Homes, which took us into property development, and that’s when we became M&J Construction. When Cromwell Homes stopped trading about six years ago, it gave us the chance to grow the business into what it is today.

Mark’s son Garrat grew up working alongside his dad and learning the trade. After time at Topps Tiles and as Sales and Development Manager for a car parts manufacturer, he joined the business full time as a partner. Jim, Mark and now Garrat. Three generations, built on reputation.

Along the way we’ve been lucky enough to carry out projects for Gray & Sons brewers and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, as well as several projects with Roderick Lee Associates.

Today we build extensions, new homes and renovations, and we still do the driveways, patios and landscaping we started with. Our team includes an architect and planning consultant, so we can look after your project from the first drawings right through to the finished job.
